of playing LEGO.

Most people (?) would remember playing with LEGO, those funny looking yellow figures that came with bricks of all shapes and sizes, clicking together to form whatever the imagination could envision.

I remembered building the buildings and various whatnot models dutifully the first time round, (as prescribed in the assembly instructions) before boredom set in, and I began making blueprints of my own design. Robots came into play, coupled with flying spaceships, hovercrafts, and of course.. the headquarters for the good guys where they could defend themselves from the onslaught of the evil villains. For some reason or other, my creations always bordered on futuristic technology rather than everyday stuff 🙂 The closet technogeek in me since childhood, grins.

Anyway, here’s a short Flash game from LEGO to entertain yourselves for awhile: Orient Expedition Quest for the Golden Dragon. Shouldn’t be too hard to complete, seeing that a sleep-deprived moron like me could complete it on the hard setting ;p

of the evening jog.

C’mon c’mon, don’t stop you arsehole!

Joining the various other weekend warriors on the running track, gasping for every breath as I struggled to keep the pace up. What a drastic change this was from my days in NS, I thought. Back then, I could probably run 11 minutes without too much effort, and now even the prospect of passing respectably took on a size approaching that of the Ten Tasks of Hercules.

I look around, continuing to drag myself forward, trying to draw precious oxygen into the lungs. The fit-looking army kid (who could probably outrun me into the ground anyday), the plump uncle with a paunch determinedly sticking to his own rhythm. A lady in shades, SMSing away (I kid you not) while leisurely continuing to jog. A probable army regular, briskly keeping in step to a quick-paced jog. Two kids laughed and tossed a frisbee around on the soccer pitch, enjoying themselves beneath the evening skies.

3 more rounds.. crap. I hate the running track.

of the longest post ever (i think)

Forenote: bleh, I really had a hard time uploading my pics this time round, pui. Sometimes I really dislike HelloBot as an image upload utility but what to do, unlimited bandwidth so.. 我忍.

Stop I: HSA @ SGH

Time for blood donation again! 🙂 I’ll skip the usual rant on this issue, and go ahead to the pics, bleh.

Arrival at HSA, finally ah! Long MRT ride as usual, seeing that LS and I live in the east. *grumbles*

Initial D the movie gonna be showing at theatres, but we got Initial S (S for shock) over at our side. Why the fcuks is the place so crowded on a weekday mid-afternoon?!

We got our answer soon enough; 40-50 NSFs (aka National Servicemen Full-time) were hanging around the place waiting for their turn as well. *rolls eyes* And no, I wasn’t telepathic and neither did they have NSF nametags hanging around their necks, but the short haircuts, neat clothes and nerdy plastic specs all screamed that aloud; same ending. Long wait to come, and were we right. Well, not a very very very long wait, but still a longer-than-usual wait. So.. it was self-entertainment time for awhile.

Stop I subpart A: Playtime!

Now what does this look like? “外星人!” – LS’s comment.

Profile mug shot. Ahh.. now we see its true features. See what happens when your head gets too swollen?

Angled shot #1, courtesy of me HP cam. Idiotic turtle grinning away.

Angled shot #2, LS’s cam. Closeup shot of the moronic turtle.

Things got better after that, and we finally managed to get into the room.

Stop I subpart B: The room

Forenote: all the shots inside were taken using my A40, since some HSA guy requested that I switch the HP off upon entry (as usual), which was why I’d brought the (clunky but) trusty dcam along.

Sneak shot #1 of the room. Taken at a not very good angle, since all of my shots were taken while I was lying on the couch. Look at the guy on the right for an example.

A closeup of the stuff that’s stored beside each point. Gloves, syrings, test tubes that sorta 🙂

The new squeeze on circulation now in HSA. Last time it used to be a normal ball which you squeezed to up the rate of blood flowing into the bag; now it’s a nice red heart saying “Cross the line. Donate blood.” Dumb message IMO, since I was already all too obviously donating blood if I could read this message. -.-

No shots of the nurse injecting the initial anaesthetic or the insertion of the actual needle for the blood. Gross factor for some, I know 🙂 But since I was the one being poked, I thought it would be pretty dumb if I blurted something like, “Sorry but could you hold the needle there while I snap a shot of it?” 🙂

After the needle had been properly inserted, and all ready to go. (And yes, it’s NOT PAINFUL, be it before/during/after.)

The thick needle mercifully covered by the big white bandage. All those with a phobia of needles can stop cringing, no pictures. ;p

The bag where all me blood goes, bleargh. It was done pretty quickly today though, weird. Usually it took quite a bit longer to fill up the bag, or maybe the playing around with me dcam made time go faster ;p

Stop I subpart C: The tubes

After all the needed blood was drawn, 4 test tubes were filled for testing purposes too. Standard procedure, don’t ask me why 🙂 Prob testing for AIDS or something, incase some dumb freak decides to infect the blood bank grins.

The bloodflow stopped for a moment, while the nurse gropes around for the test tube.

Pouring it all in.

Stopping the bottle up after it’s done. There, one down. Three more. *grumbles*

Stop I subpart D: Aftermath

We stopped outside for awhile, to get a bite of the free food and drink provided. Soft toys with handwritten tags (written by hospital patients, so I read) were given out along with the refreshments today, hrm.

Note: don’t ever try the chrysanthemum tea; it looks fine but tastes like yellow colored hot water. That’s how diluted it is 🙂

The collection of refreshments, my donor card and the two stuffed animals. LS’s beanie Dalmatian that was being sat on by my duck. Interestingly enough, my duck had articulated joints at the leg parts so you could actually twist it around 360 degrees ;p However, the duck reminded me of those defeathered roast ducks you always see hanging on display at the duck rice stalls though; add a metal hook and it’ll be all set to go.

The new bandages introduced a few months back. They used to give a nice rectangular plaster to stop the bleeding, but I suppose they thought these bandages were more chic and in fashion, grins. Not exactly the entire truth, I’d say 🙂

Stop II: Maison De Poupee

I’d been wanting to hop down and have a go at the food for some time after reading about it from 8 Days and the forums, so why not today? 🙂 It’s actually a quiet cafe in the City Hall area (near the old MPH) that sells apparel for ladies as well.

Zack, the owner wasn’t around when we arrived, and a photo shoot was going on so it turned out to be quite an odd experience. LS and I had to stand at a corner while the photog snapped a few frames of the main dining area, then we changed tables three times so that we wouldn’t be seen in the shots. Talk about bad timing.

I ordered a cheese fondue anyway, and sat down to wait; LS lazing with an issue of Her World and me snapping a few shots, flipping through another mag and generally taking a look around. Like I said, pretty quiet place and we were the only customers around. French songs were on the air, playing softly and the decor was simple.

A look at the main area; you can see the apparel and bags on display.

An empty table to our left, oddly covered with plastic when the rest weren’t. (?)

Zack appeared later; that’s his head you see behind the counter. Two changing rooms to the far right. Nods, the reddish looking thingies.

The cheese fondue, with bread cubes, kiwi, banana, tomatoes and mushrooms. Hrm, mushrooms’re not exactly my favourite food in the world. Zack came by with additional cheese crackers as well. (Cheese + cheese = man.) That aside, the cheese was quite different from the usual whatever-you-buy-from-supermarket that you eat at home, kinda powdery taste to it. Not too bad, I’ll say. I ended up eating the fondue alone though, bleargh. Overdose of cheese today liao.

I hadn’t had time to try other stuff, but I’m quite sure that I’ll come back again since I’ll be studying at T-bloody-MC soon. Good place for self-study if nothing else 🙂

Stop III: Suntec City

On to Suntec City for Batman Begins! (It seemed like there’s nothing else that appealed to me for the moment on the movie listings, brr.)

This kid was staring at me during dinner at the Suntec basement food court, and I couldn’t resist taking his/her/its pic 🙂 Kids’re really kewt when they’re young; contemplate not of the assholes they become later on and you’re safe in bliss, laugh.

No offence to anyone in particular, since I believe everyone really do look their best as kids, before puberty kills all the cuteness and replaces it with acne/hair/whatever-other-crap problems 🙂

Stop III subpart A: Batman Begins

This particular Batman movie is good 🙂 I like the way the movie’s shot, flashing between the past memories and the present. His childhood. The parents’ deaths. The League of Shadows training, and the setting up of his Batman persona. The movie has quite the feel of the Dark Knight to it, albeit with quite a few technological twists. Alfred’s humors quips were also a small but welcome addition to the movie. However, the initial plot development was truly slow-paced; LS and I were beginning to concuss at a few points. The pace picked up noticeably once Bruce Wayne returned to Gotham City, however. Phew 🙂

Sonic device to summon bats? Well done.
Cape that can become an instant hang-glider? Quite an inspiration.
The new Batmobile? Nodsie, Batmobile all right. Mobile battering ram would fit the description better, judging from the trail of mayhem in the movie 🙂 Really looked like a bloody tank, unlike the sleekness of the previous Batmobile.

All rights, all in all it’s a pretty good movie, but not as wonderful as what me good kaki the leongster rants and raves about. (Note: eh don’t come and flame me ah bro, differing points of view, remember! I’m a shallow individual LOL.) Got time should catch it 🙂

That’s all for the day, gees. It’s nearly 0430 hrs and I’m finally done with this fewkin’ post, crap. SLEEP!

of a seemingly packed day.

I’d yakked all night long with ahlong (better known as the leongster in our little blogger community) till 3a.m. or thereabouts, and it was a pretty tired and stoned ah kein who awoke to morning bball.

.. and as usual, I had to perform alarm clock duty for NZ before he could come down to join us. You know, something like calling someone and grumbling “oiiiii.. wakeup!” Not exactly what I like doing but shrugs, we all have our little pet rants I suppose. That aside, morning bball with JH and NZ was quite invigorating 🙂 The shooting seems to have returned, and I was quite on form with the jumpers and free throws; what a absolute miracle 🙂

The remainder of my time before IPPT (read: Individual Physical Proficiency Test) and yes, I took it today but we’ll get to that part later; all in good time) was spent at home with NZ, going over some miscellaneous stuff in web design and coding, stuff I’m sure none of you guys’ll be interested. What, you’re actually curious? Well.. it’s actually stuff like (technobabble start) code and functionality of webpages; aesthetics, the backend codes using dynamic web scripts like PHP, ASP, JSP, Coldfusion and image editing with Adobe Photoshop and.. I think I’d better stop this part before everyone starts snoring and leaking drool all over their keyboards. 🙂

And of course, on to the main course: IPPT! I had the greatest time asking for directions from alot of people before going, but all everyone said amounted to something to the order of “you won’t miss it one la!” NB. Lucky there was this NSman (got the NSman look you know? Middle-aged, put on weight, irregular exercise and civvie clothing all that stuff, exactly where I’m gonna be in about ten years’ time) infront, and I just tagged along behind right down to Bedok FCC.

The equipment there’s spanking new and quite user-friendly I must say, quite a contrast from the IPPTs I took during my service term. I had my doubts about the accuracy of the shuttle run and SBJ (standing broad jump) stations though, since I clocked 9.3 secs for one and 230 cm (pathetic, sigh) for the other. ‘Tis like whaddafugs?! But yeah, silver scores nonetheless. The clincher was the 2.4, as I expected. *sighs* To inject humor into the situation, yours truly came up with the following captions:

– “Walking during your 2.4km run: Fine $100.”
– “Hungry? Tasty snakes available during your 2.4km run. Warning: hefty price tag of $100.”

Yeah, not very funny but ’tis the best I can do bleh. Mental fatigue man, blardy hell. I always hated running my 2.4 on the jogging track. 6 blardy rounds, I was beginning to walk by the 3rd round lol. However, I sorta misjudged the time and walked too much. Woops? Nevertheless, I’ll book a retest on stupid MIW soon, brr. At least Aik and YL’ll be coming along on the retest, grins. Company! 🙂 Apologies to Shan for her SMS of encouragement tho’, since I certainly didn’t do my best. :X

And just as I’d thought the day was done, the old man flared up over some trivial shit, cursing and swearing in Teochew loudly, banging stuff in the kitchen, refusing to eat dinner because he claimed he was too pissed. Yeah, that sorta thing. All over something which I didn’t do, NB. I absolutely hate it when people accuse me of things and I’m not the damn fcuking guilty party, pui.

But the night was saved by a call from Erwin, and an impromptu late night kopi session w/ him and S 🙂 And it’s absolutely amazing, S finally pierced her ears lol. Long talk, fun. And right now, my head is throbbing from lack of sleep. Time to finish my Jerry Maguire DVD; “Show me the money!”

More to come tomorrow, since it’ll be quite a busy day as well 🙂

Just when I thought I was done, brr. Changed the song playing to Jay’s 借口. Was walking home after the IPPT listening to that song, and it struck me again for the Nth time howmuch I liked it 🙂 Especially the part where the instrument in the background goes counterpoint when he’s singing 也许你已经放弃我 也许已经很难回头 in the beginning, and goes to a crescendo with his vocals going 说~ 你不爱我. The rawness of the vocals’re also appeals to me alot, feels like projection of his feelings into the song. In short? Very nice! :O

of that library.

It’d been quite awhile since I last stepped into the TP (read: Temasek Polytechnic) library. In my days there as a student, I doubt that I’d even been into the place more than ten times. (If you discounted the times I went down to the basement collecting my damn lecture notes.) And ten times for three years is a pretty incredible number, if I might say so myself.

I remember my first time there with the classmates, when I discovered the sofas there. Sank with pleasure into one, stretched a little.. and promptly fell asleep thereafter. Sleep-inducing environment, if I might say so myself 🙂

All in all, the thought of studying there had never occurred to me back then, so I found it pretty ironic that I’d return to the place to study as an adult. And for the morons who thought that I’d sneaked in as a non-student, hmm you’re actually right; I walked into the place as an alumni member, bleh. (Not that anyone would’ve noticed, since I looked just like any other student wandering around. 23 year old with the face of a 19 year old, anyone? I always thought it a point of humor that I look more like a poly student now than I did back then.)

Well, the place hasn’t changed much, aside from the renovation done at the entrance level. No photos taken there, I was more interested in getting to level seven.

Same old level seven shelves; prolly different books 🙂

The remainder of the morning was spent quietly studying, giving the CCNA syllabus the finger and listening to Jay on the mobile. It seems funny that most of the people I know don’t actually bother to study seriously until the chance for full-time education has gone away. Nods, and I’m one of ’em 🙂

After a short lunch with the colleagues at the Designer Pad (that’s the School of Design canteen, for the uninitiated) and a bit of idle talk, I headed back upstairs to mug again. Too distracted to talk much, too deep in thought anyway.

Tempting sunny weather outside, while I sat freezing my ass off. 😦

The same old book, a deluge of questions and answers. I felt like an inmate looking out of the window, awaiting for release. Nah, maybe more like a schoolkid looking outside and counting down to the end of school. 🙂

It was nearly 5 p.m. when I left the place; a record 120 pages’ worth of questions and answers covered. More visits to follow in future for sure 🙂 Now I know why I signed up with TPGA for the damn card last time.

of the absolute shits.

Extreme prolonged pain in the teeth/gums/mouth/whatever thanks to my Friday dental, so limited biting. I can’t use my molars, can’t bite properly. (I always hate this part of the treatment)

Ulcer on the lower lip, nicely positioned so that my teeth can mercilessly wack it everytime I close my mouth. Difficulty in drinking and eating.

Lack of sleep, gotta study. Fatigue and a little of the upcoming exam stress.

Combine ’em together, and what do you get? I don’t know, maybe something like the grandpapa of all shit for now 🙂 tamades.

Ahh, let the fcukin’ braces be off soon or I’ll start going mad. *spits in disgust*
